-> Thank you for the birthday messages and wishes! :D Y'all are lovely.

-> Should I get a tumblr?? Is that where the fannish land is shifting underneath my feet? I know that LJ is going a little quieter these days and that while AO3 is where the bulk of fic is going, I know I'm missing squee and fic not being on the tumblr. I just... FEAR CHANGE OKAY?? Do you have a tumblr? What is it? How does it work? How do you actually read/see all the things. Everytime I go to have a look it looks... complicated. Heh.

-> Writing, writing, writing! Two [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bangs, 11k and 6k currently which I'm excited about, Clint/Coulson fake!boyfriends which I was running out of steam on but has been rejuvenated and Thor fic where Thor is pretending to not Get Stuff just to mess with people because he was Loki's brother, he did pick up a trick or two.

Ugh, cat!boy Clint seems to not be grooving in my head though. I was excited about it but I've kinda petered out. Here is a snippet I do actually like, might pry it off the wip backburner some day.

So, the changes aren't entirely cosmetic, which makes Tony laugh so hard Steve starts to look worried about him having a stroke. Clint puts up with the barage of tests, more patient than anyone in medical has ever seen him be because he wants this fixed yesterday.

"Your affliction is magical in nature, I do not believe your healers, no matter how skilled, have the capacity to resolve your... erm, problem," Thor says gently when Clint emerges, scowling and holding cotton swabs to the various places they'd insisted on taking blood. Thor's got this funny look on his face and Clint finally can't take the creepy staring.

"Oh god, what?" he finally demands.

"It is just... can I touch your ears?" he asks finally, eyes fixed and infinitely charmed.

"Are you allowed to touch my human ears?" Clint asks incredulously.

"I have never asked."

Clint's stumped for a second, before he snarls, "No, okay? The answer to any ear touching is no."

Thor looks so tragically disappointed that Clint almost relents.

Almost.

Yes, get one. No, it's not complicated, but it feels like it should be even after you've had one for over a year. Yes, you have a legion of happy-to-serve people who will answer any questions you may have. You may actually want two tumblrs, one for fannish stuff, and one for porn. Maybe even one for your own stuff or real life things. <3

Oh my god catboy Clint. BEST.

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

Hahahaaa... THERE WILL BE QUESTIONS.

I just worry because LJ seems to have gotten quiet like, all of a SUDDEN and peeps keep saying that they are still on tumblr even when they're dropping LJ due to RL busy-ness.

I might start out with just a fannish one and then see if it takes over my life and I need more. :D

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

I wonder if my work blocks it except during lunchtimes like other social sites... hmmm... investigations are needed.

From: [identity profile] loupyloupowell.livejournal.com

I had a tumblr (well, technically I still have one but I barely use it). It's not bad. I mean, I think there are stuff like daily post limits now or something? I haven't really kept up with the news, idk. But it's not bad, and the majority of the people on there (that I know of) are pretty friendly.

From: [identity profile] gottalovev.livejournal.com

oh my god, that snippet is so effing cute! lol! poor Thor, denied fondling surely soft cat!boy Clint ears!

I am sorry I'm late, but happy belated birthday! I hope it was a good one :)

(as for tumblr, I am mariloucoco, and my tumblr consists of Avengers, pretty people, art that catch my eye, things that make me laugh and cute animals)

Thank you! :D

Hahahaa... that will probably describe my tumblr if I end up setting one up exactly.

From: [identity profile] alessandriana.livejournal.com

I'm not convinced Tumblr's where fandom's going to end up permanently, but there's enough going on there that it's worth checking out. And it's really not as complicated as it looks.

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

I think the problem is that I am missing a chunk not using multiple mediums, rather than the whole thing moving somewhere else...

I just need to get over my FEAR OF CHAAAAAAANGE.

From: [identity profile] alessandriana.livejournal.com

Yeah, that's essentially the reason I finally made one-- one of my main fandoms these days is over there almost exclusively, so by sticking to LJ/AO3 I was behind on fic updates by weeks and even months, sometimes.

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

I know - I'm catching the 'this has already been posted blah' and then archived but I know some people are only posting fic to tumblr which, what, why, come back to meeee! :D

I think that while fic is largely centralizing to AO3, fandom as a whole is splintering (or at least the LJ portion of it is). Some people are going to tumblr, but a lot are going to Dreamwidth. I know nothing about tumblr, but Dreamwidth is like LJ except with staff who don't troll and actually listen to what their users want. And with cool nifty features.

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

I do have a dreamwidth, I've been doing an archive there every few months. I guess I'm just realising I need to use more than one medium not to miss a whole chunk.

From: [personal profile] beatrice_otter

Yeah. I use both DW and LJ, because the coms and people are different both places. Which means I have to keep track of both my flist and my read page, but oh well.

From: [identity profile] lomer.livejournal.com

I have one, but it's not as satisfying as LJ. On LJ you share your opinion and I respond and we have this great conversation. Tumblr is more like, "here's a picture of a cat!" LIKE LIKE LIKE REBLOG. I miss the conversations. You CAN have conversations on Tumblr but it's more difficult.

So go ahead and get one, play around, reblog pics of cute boys, but don't delete LJ or anything. I'm "imakegoodlifechoices" on Tumblr if you want to find me. :)

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

Hee... I'm definitely not going to move off LJ while peeps are still here. It's more I'm realising that I'm missing a chunk of fandom while using only one medium. I've been using AO3 so I guess it's time to branch out too but definitely want to keep the community feel here! :D

For me Tumblr is only about looking at the pretty things. It seems like there's no real community aspect to it.
A lot of fandom peeps are heading over to Dreamwidth which is like LJ but they care about fandom and the staff are nicer x a billionty.

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

I have a dreamwidth and archive to it, I guess I don't really use it the same as here, more as a safety net.

I'm definitely not going to move off LJ while peeps are still here. It's more I'm realising that I'm missing a chunk of fandom while using only one medium. I've been using AO3 so I guess it's time to branch out too but definitely want to keep the community feel here!

From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com

I actually wouldn't advise Tumblr for fannish squee. Tumblr is full of hate and entitlement and drama for no reason besides immaturity and...I don't know. I know I don't like Tumblr - it's only purpose IMO is graphics and images, which it's full of, and that's good. I've seen a tiny bit of fic around but it's really not a platform made for it...

From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com

Also, I think a number of people here have drifted to Twitter for quick, little moments and conversations about fandom. I know I spend more time on Twitter these days than on Tumblr or LJ.

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

I'm resisting twitter... :) I resisted Facebook as long as I possibly could and still forget to use it half the time.

I'm thinking of maybe just setting one up to follow some peeps I know that post fic there more than anywhere else but I would definitely stick with here and AO3 being my main outlets.

You've definitely made me want to tread carefully though! *hugs*

From: [identity profile] delicatale.livejournal.com

Tumblr can be fun, definitely, but I don't believe there's much of a community sense there. People follow other people without knowing them and rarely try to make friends over there; it's cliqu-y. But there is good things there too! I am ailoveille over on Tumblr btw.

That's why I like Twitter better; Twitter is all about community and communication, and I find that more interesting!

From: [identity profile] foxxcub.livejournal.com

Tumblr exists in a vacuum; there's virtually no communication and no real sense of community. However, a lot fandom news "breaks" there, i.e. new videos/info/pics/gifs, etc. But I don't treat it like I do LJ at all. I don't freak out if I go three days without checking Tumblr like I do with LJ. I think there will always be a place for LJ in fandom, it's just not THE center of the fandom universe anymore. For me, using Twitter, AO3, Tumblr and LJ together is my fannish experience (I'm just too lazy to use Dreamwidth, even though I've tried).

Do I have to get a twitter? *sighsighsigh*

I RESIST NEW THINGS. :D

*clings*

Dreamwidth I'm basically just using as an archive tool. I think the only time I log into it is when I transfer entries. I just... it would be waaaaay too much effort to have to check Dreamwidth as well as LJ.

For me, using Twitter, AO3, Tumblr and LJ together is my fannish experience

I'm getting that now that you really have to multi-medium it to get a rounded experience and not miss ALL THE THINGS. :D

Oh, cat!Clint, Your snarly back-is-up reaction is not cat-like *at all*.
*snorfle*

I luff.

Um. I have a Tumblr. I got it to follow my daughter's page, being a good mom, you know. I also follow [livejournal.com profile] sweptawaybayou and a few others, because there is a *lot* of awesome art/gifs/images over there.

I do not read fic on tumblr, as it sucks for communication - very one sided.

I found tumblr pretty damn confusing, and still have some issues, so it's mostly just a 'browse around and collect pretty pictures' thing for me, and fannish only in that i view a lot more fanart over there than anywhere else, which is cool. :)

This is me on tumblr, if you have the slightest interest. http://www.tumblr.com/blog/cheynelightning

I despise Twitter, but use FB to talk to my family.

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

I AM ALWAYS INTERESTED IN YOOOOOOU.

I just... Twitter DO NOT WANT. I would have a purely fannish twitter if I went there, but I would be TERRIFIED RL peeps would start finding me on it because hardly any of them are on LJ anymore so that concerns gone but not twitter. Some of them know of my fannish tendancies but SOME OF THEM DO NOT FOR A REASON.

I will be scoping it out as it looks like I must.

Heeee!!
*smooch*

Well, you could have a fannish Twitter and just give it a name that nobody would have a clue about, that's what i did. I got one to see what it was like and followed a few people but i haven't checked in in months and frankly, it's kind of annoying.

On tumblr i follow two that are really neat - bluepueblo, which is beautiful pictures of awesome/beautiful/hidden places and fuckyeahhistorycrushes, which is exactly what it sounds like, with pictures, busts, and paintings of attractive/neat people from history. :)

fuckyeahhistorycrushes

HAHAHAHAAAA! That sounds awesome! :)

I fear change too, and have avoided things such as tumbler and twitter, so I cannot give you an opinion....

As for this little ficlet...?...

"No, okay? The answer to any ear touching is no."

*dies*

You're awesome!

:D

Ugh, I didn't want a Facebook but people would do FB only invites and then be like, why weren't you at that thing and I would be like WHAT THING?? >:/

Twitter will be my last straw. :(

People keep saying tumblr is nothing but wank and has no sense of community and is only good for eye-candy and not squeeing/reacting/meta whatever. I didn't like it much for a while, but have now been won over.

The interacting works *differently* on LJ and I definitely understand why people like LJ's commenting system. I prefer it too. However, I am figuring out how to be more communicative on tumblr and in fact the squee and meta and eye candy and sense of community has been very good to have--it wasn't happening on LJ for some reason for certain interests. Tumblr is less demanding than LJ due to logistics and that was also good for me right now. There is more and more interesting meta there, the eye-candy and flow of news related to fannish interest and circulation of behind the scenes images/gifs/video links and quotes and interviews. It's fast and squeeful.

My prediction, honestly, is that fandom isn't going to migrate en masse to one new site, together. DW to me is LJ redux, the only difference is better site owners--I haven't connected with DW any better than I have with LJ lately. Twitter has probably become my most frequent go-to.

Logistical preferences have become almost secondary for me, because like you, I feel I'm missing a big piece of the delicious fandom pie. I'm missing things if I drop LJ, so I'm not doing that (although I am spending less time on it). But...there is delicious pie on other sites. (Yes I do get why some would rather deal with the journaling format...but just for my own experience, I would've missed a lot of delicious pie).

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

Ugh, I AM MISSING DELICIOUS PIE TOOOOO. :(

I get that I really need to multi-site it to get the whole enchilada but I've been dragging my feet. I'm sure the interactions on any of these sites are what you make of them. I'm probably going to have a bash at creating a tumblr to follow some peeps and then see how I go and if it's all too daunting or I magically like it.

Could go either way.

There's no obligation to, though. If you're content on LJ/DW, why spread yourself too thin or give yourself a headache? But you sound like you feel you're missing out on things and are interested. I'm sure there are plenty willing to offer tumblr/twitter guidance! (Feel free to ask my stuff if you want).

The one biggest difference seems to be lack of cut tags. Twitter has none (unless you use the tweet longer thing, so it is possible) and on tumblr I've noticed an increase in usage of the "read more" cut for spoilers and discussion of wank or really long posts. But all images and gifs and most posts are right out there on your dash. So LJ's long-standing consideration with hiding spoilers and using cut tags makes it easier to have flists of mixed interest. Twitter and tumblr is a bit more intense with things and people are relaxed about adding/unfollowing, which makes sense. (You can always get tumblr savior, which allows you to add certain tags to a blacklist so you see there is a post about it but don't have to see it. This only works if someone has tagged their posts properly, and not everyone does...but it's sort of a self-service version of the cut tag).

For example, Avengers fans tagged their posts "Avengers spoilers" for a while so as not to ruin it for others, and then others could tumblr savior that tag out.

Tumblr is jam packed with tasty Avengers pie at the moment...

From: [identity profile] kellifer-fic.livejournal.com

I knooooow... I am missing some of the pretty and while people do repost here I know not everything makes it across. :)

That's all very helpful though! I might end up shifting it into the too hard basket after I've had a look but I might find it's not so daunting once I've tooled around for a little bit.
