-> Thank you for the birthday messages and wishes! :D Y'all are lovely.

-> Should I get a tumblr?? Is that where the fannish land is shifting underneath my feet? I know that LJ is going a little quieter these days and that while AO3 is where the bulk of fic is going, I know I'm missing squee and fic not being on the tumblr. I just... FEAR CHANGE OKAY?? Do you have a tumblr? What is it? How does it work? How do you actually read/see all the things. Everytime I go to have a look it looks... complicated. Heh.

-> Writing, writing, writing! Two [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bangs, 11k and 6k currently which I'm excited about, Clint/Coulson fake!boyfriends which I was running out of steam on but has been rejuvenated and Thor fic where Thor is pretending to not Get Stuff just to mess with people because he was Loki's brother, he did pick up a trick or two.

Ugh, cat!boy Clint seems to not be grooving in my head though. I was excited about it but I've kinda petered out. Here is a snippet I do actually like, might pry it off the wip backburner some day.

So, the changes aren't entirely cosmetic, which makes Tony laugh so hard Steve starts to look worried about him having a stroke. Clint puts up with the barage of tests, more patient than anyone in medical has ever seen him be because he wants this fixed yesterday.

"Your affliction is magical in nature, I do not believe your healers, no matter how skilled, have the capacity to resolve your... erm, problem," Thor says gently when Clint emerges, scowling and holding cotton swabs to the various places they'd insisted on taking blood. Thor's got this funny look on his face and Clint finally can't take the creepy staring.

"Oh god, what?" he finally demands.

"It is just... can I touch your ears?" he asks finally, eyes fixed and infinitely charmed.

"Are you allowed to touch my human ears?" Clint asks incredulously.

"I have never asked."

Clint's stumped for a second, before he snarls, "No, okay? The answer to any ear touching is no."

Thor looks so tragically disappointed that Clint almost relents.

Almost.

Yes, get one. No, it's not complicated, but it feels like it should be even after you've had one for over a year. Yes, you have a legion of happy-to-serve people who will answer any questions you may have. You may actually want two tumblrs, one for fannish stuff, and one for porn. Maybe even one for your own stuff or real life things. <3

Oh my god catboy Clint. BEST.

I had a tumblr (well, technically I still have one but I barely use it). It's not bad. I mean, I think there are stuff like daily post limits now or something? I haven't really kept up with the news, idk. But it's not bad, and the majority of the people on there (that I know of) are pretty friendly.

oh my god, that snippet is so effing cute! lol! poor Thor, denied fondling surely soft cat!boy Clint ears!

I am sorry I'm late, but happy belated birthday! I hope it was a good one :)

(as for tumblr, I am mariloucoco, and my tumblr consists of Avengers, pretty people, art that catch my eye, things that make me laugh and cute animals)

I'm not convinced Tumblr's where fandom's going to end up permanently, but there's enough going on there that it's worth checking out. And it's really not as complicated as it looks.

I think that while fic is largely centralizing to AO3, fandom as a whole is splintering (or at least the LJ portion of it is). Some people are going to tumblr, but a lot are going to Dreamwidth. I know nothing about tumblr, but Dreamwidth is like LJ except with staff who don't troll and actually listen to what their users want. And with cool nifty features.

I have one, but it's not as satisfying as LJ. On LJ you share your opinion and I respond and we have this great conversation. Tumblr is more like, "here's a picture of a cat!" LIKE LIKE LIKE REBLOG. I miss the conversations. You CAN have conversations on Tumblr but it's more difficult.

So go ahead and get one, play around, reblog pics of cute boys, but don't delete LJ or anything. I'm "imakegoodlifechoices" on Tumblr if you want to find me. :)

For me Tumblr is only about looking at the pretty things. It seems like there's no real community aspect to it.
A lot of fandom peeps are heading over to Dreamwidth which is like LJ but they care about fandom and the staff are nicer x a billionty.

I actually wouldn't advise Tumblr for fannish squee. Tumblr is full of hate and entitlement and drama for no reason besides immaturity and...I don't know. I know I don't like Tumblr - it's only purpose IMO is graphics and images, which it's full of, and that's good. I've seen a tiny bit of fic around but it's really not a platform made for it...

Tumblr exists in a vacuum; there's virtually no communication and no real sense of community. However, a lot fandom news "breaks" there, i.e. new videos/info/pics/gifs, etc. But I don't treat it like I do LJ at all. I don't freak out if I go three days without checking Tumblr like I do with LJ. I think there will always be a place for LJ in fandom, it's just not THE center of the fandom universe anymore. For me, using Twitter, AO3, Tumblr and LJ together is my fannish experience (I'm just too lazy to use Dreamwidth, even though I've tried).

Oh, cat!Clint, Your snarly back-is-up reaction is not cat-like *at all*.
*snorfle*

I luff.

Um. I have a Tumblr. I got it to follow my daughter's page, being a good mom, you know. I also follow [livejournal.com profile] sweptawaybayou and a few others, because there is a *lot* of awesome art/gifs/images over there.

I do not read fic on tumblr, as it sucks for communication - very one sided.

I found tumblr pretty damn confusing, and still have some issues, so it's mostly just a 'browse around and collect pretty pictures' thing for me, and fannish only in that i view a lot more fanart over there than anywhere else, which is cool. :)

This is me on tumblr, if you have the slightest interest. http://www.tumblr.com/blog/cheynelightning

I despise Twitter, but use FB to talk to my family.

I fear change too, and have avoided things such as tumbler and twitter, so I cannot give you an opinion....

As for this little ficlet...?...

"No, okay? The answer to any ear touching is no."

*dies*

You're awesome!

People keep saying tumblr is nothing but wank and has no sense of community and is only good for eye-candy and not squeeing/reacting/meta whatever. I didn't like it much for a while, but have now been won over.

The interacting works *differently* on LJ and I definitely understand why people like LJ's commenting system. I prefer it too. However, I am figuring out how to be more communicative on tumblr and in fact the squee and meta and eye candy and sense of community has been very good to have--it wasn't happening on LJ for some reason for certain interests. Tumblr is less demanding than LJ due to logistics and that was also good for me right now. There is more and more interesting meta there, the eye-candy and flow of news related to fannish interest and circulation of behind the scenes images/gifs/video links and quotes and interviews. It's fast and squeeful.

My prediction, honestly, is that fandom isn't going to migrate en masse to one new site, together. DW to me is LJ redux, the only difference is better site owners--I haven't connected with DW any better than I have with LJ lately. Twitter has probably become my most frequent go-to.

Logistical preferences have become almost secondary for me, because like you, I feel I'm missing a big piece of the delicious fandom pie. I'm missing things if I drop LJ, so I'm not doing that (although I am spending less time on it). But...there is delicious pie on other sites. (Yes I do get why some would rather deal with the journaling format...but just for my own experience, I would've missed a lot of delicious pie).
