Daniel stands in the doorway in pajama bottoms and bare feet and Jack says, “Can’t sleep?”
“Yeah. My brain just won’t… shut off.”
Daniel used to explain it further but they’ve short-handed it now. Jack will wave him over and they will be two grown men in the one bed and it should be all kinds of weird, but it isn’t. Daniel will lay down at a right-angle with his head on Jack’s stomach and Jack will mess his hands through Daniel’s hair while he tells Daniel about his parents, about Charlie, the pets he had growing up and the times he got injured in hockey.
Daniel will finally sleep.

For some reason Daniel has trouble sleeping in quarters on the base but he drops right off with his head down on Sam’s desk and the quiet murmurs of her talking to herself while she works on some gadget as his background noise.

Kel’no’reem helps and Teal’c is always welcoming. Especially because he knows that he can talk Daniel in to going out for ice cream about half an hour in.
-4-
Daniel was never particularly sporty, so is still a little mystified as to how he found himself playing basketball with Cameron whenever the two of them were too buzzed to crash.

Daniel marvels at the way Jack can sleep anywhere, even with his back propped against the bars of a cell.
“Count sheep,” Jack suggests, cracking an eye open.
“That never works for me.”
“Count Jaffa then.” Jack shrugs and then rolls his eyes when Daniel grins and points a finger at Teal’c and says, “One.”
Jack lets Daniel go on like this for about an hour until his eyes are sliding closed. It seems that teasing Jack takes a lot out of a guy.
