Rodney McKay liked to think that his adolescent years spent watching science fiction did not mark him a geek but was instead valuable training for life in the Pegasus Galaxy.
When Samantha Carter showed up on P5J-777, he didn't automatically think, ,yippee.
Instead, Rodney McKay's first instinct was -
Evil Twin

"And how is she saying she came to be here?"
Both he and Carson were standing in the observation area of one of the infirmary rooms that had been converted into a temporary isolation wing. Elizabeth hadn't wanted to take any chances and it was one of the rare occasions that both she and Rodney were in complete agreement.
"I thought you'd be ecstatic to see her," Carson observed, quirking an eyebrow.
"Normally, yes. If she were at the helm of the Prometheus and had come to rescue us all then I would definitely be doing a very enthusiastic happy dance-"
"Is that like your invulnerable dance?"
Rodney scowled. "Will anyone ever let that go? Anyway, am I alone in thinking that Samantha Carter just turning up on a planet in the Pegasus Galaxy that we just happen to have a team on is suspicious?"
"Of course you're not." John had appeared behind both men, silent as ever. "It's pretty whacky."
"Have you talked to her?" Carson asked and John shook his head.
"Elizabeth wants Rodney to do it."
"Me?" Rodney squeaked. Both John and Carson blinked at him, mostly at the high register his voice had managed.
"You're the only one that actually knows her. It'd be a bit pointless me interviewing her if we're trying to ascertain whether she's the real Samantha Carter or not."
"But you're better at..." Rodney waved a hand in a helpless gesture, looking for the right word.
"Talking to people?" John supplied and grinned when Rodney snorted at him in derision.
"No... all that... torture stuff."
John stilled and his eyebrows almost touched his hairline. "I don't think we were planning on torturing her McKay, geez. Just talk to her."
"What if that doesn't work?" Rodney demanded.
"Well," John looked at Carson who shrugged. "If that doesn't work, we'll throw her in the ocean and see if she floats."
Rodney was still gaping at John as he left the room, quietly chuckling.

"Yep, definitely not Samantha Carter." Rodney affirmed at a briefing with Elizabeth, John and Carson only half an hour later.
"Wow, Rodney... how can you tell so fast?" Elizabeth pressed, taken aback at Rodney's sureness. "Did she say something that gave her away? Did she actually admit she wasn't Colonel Carter?"
"Not...well, not exactly." Rodney looked down at the table, picking his nails and very intently not meeting the three pairs of eyes that were now locked on him.
"Spill McKay," John prompted, leaning over to tug on Rodney's shirtsleeve.
"I just know. We've spent time together and I'm sure that's not her."
"Okay, that's all well and good but I need something more concrete." Elizabeth said.
Rodney grew more intent on his own nails and a flush of red crept up his neck and across his cheeks. "Can't you just take my word for it?" he asked, sounding peeved and more than a little embarrassed.
"C'mon, McKay. Spill it." John said. Elizabeth watched them, her face impassive, waiting.
"Alright, fine!" Rodney snapped. "She flirted back okay?"
"What?" Carson snorted, trying to quell the outright chortle that was threatening to break free of him.
"I went in and flirted and she reciprocated. Therefore, not Samantha Carter."
"Do you even know how to?"
Rodney turned on John, his face scarlet but now with indignation rather than embarrassment. "Yes I know how to,Major! I also know that the last time I tried Colonel Carter in no uncertain terms let me know that my advances were not wanted. I think the word spurned would be an appropriate term."
John was holding up his hands. "I'm sorry Rodney. I'm sure you're very... skilled."
"Oh, that's it!" Rodney stood as Carson and John dissolved into hopeless giggles. Elizabeth leaned forward and touched Rodney's hand, halting his retreat.
"If you're sure, that's enough for me," she assured, standing herself. "I'll double the guard we have on the door and try to figure out what we're to do with her."
After Elizabeth left, Rodney turned furious eyes on the two men still trying to get a handle on their fit of the giggles. "I'm glad you're both enjoying this so much." Rodney said, his tone effectively cutting off the giggles that Carson and John had been indulging in. "If something has to be done with her, it'll be one of you two." Rodney stormed out of the room, throwing a "If you need me I'll be in my labs," behind him.
Carson turned to John, his face sober. "Oh aye, that's a thought. It probably will have to be one of us," he swallowed loudly. "If anything has to be...done."
John shrugged. "Unless she's a robot."
