“Hey, Doc, have you seen Colonel Sheppard?”

Rodney froze, knowing that what they had been doing was stupid and reckless but he hadn’t been able to resist because, well, just because.

John hadn’t slept in four days and when they sat down to watch a movie together John had just sort of slumped sideways and over the course of the movie they had both shifted and moved until John’s head was resting in Rodney’s lap and he was stretched out full length on the rest of the couch. He’d been restless until Rodney had dug his fingers through the thick mop of dark hair that just begged to be mussed and John had relaxed when Rodney had dug fingers into his scalp.

Then Major Lorne had come in.

The couch they were on was facing the large screen set at the front of the room and the door was behind that. Rodney was pretty sure all Lorne could see were his head and shoulders but he supposed it would probably look worse if John were to raise his head at that exact moment… considering he would pretty much be appearing from the vicinity of Rodney’s groin.

“Uh… um, not recently, no,” Rodney said, grimacing when his voice cracked. He could bluster, exaggerate and embellish with the best of them but when it came to straight out lying he was a lost cause.

“Really?” Lorne sounded surprised and Rodney nearly turned on him to demand just why he would assume they were together or at least that Rodney would know where John was, but they were together and the very action of his indignation would dislodge John from his lap so instead he said,

“Yes, really.”

“Okay,” Lorne said and Rodney could hear the grin in his voice. “In that case you might want to tell him that he left his boots in here.” Rodney looked down the couch and realised that a six foot John lying on a five foot couch would leave bits over. “His legs too. I’m assuming he’ll be needing those.”

“Stop torturing McKay,” John grumbled from his supine position, making no effort to move.

“Sorry Sir,” Lorne chuckled. “You’re needed in the control room.”

“Be there in a minute,” John said, sticking one hand up and over the back of the couch and waving Lorne off.

Rodney looked down at John, who had opened his eyes and was looking back up at him, the angle causing his brow to wrinkle.

“You’re a terrible liar,” John admonished, but there was a smile in his voice.
