Just the one this time... I seem to be slowing down which is unusual for me... At least I got the Teal'c fics done... :) I'll try and get the rest knocked over on the weekend.

Summary: “He warned me. I didn’t listen.”

“He warned me. I didn’t listen.”

Carolyn was reading the chart in her hands and looked up at Cameron Mitchell, wondering whether he’d said something before that she hadn’t heard.

“I’m sorry?”

“How could I have thought it was just a weakness on his part? I mean, c’mon. This is Jack O’Neill.”

“Colonel Mitchell, are you talking to yourself or are you actually trying to involve me in this conversation? Because if that’s the case, you should probably start from the beginning rather than the middle.”

Cameron grimaced good-naturedly. “Sorry, I probably was mostly talking to myself.” Cameron looked so forlorn and confused that Carolyn sighed and hopped up on the infirmary bed opposite him, setting the chart aside.

“I’ve been told I’m a good listener. If there’s something bothering you, it might help to talk about it.”

“I hugged her. Right in the gateroom.”

Carolyn blinked. “I really would love to help you, but the whole random sentences thing just isn’t helping.”

Cameron sighed, rubbing a hand over his face. “Sam and Jackson-“

“Will be fine. They’re sedated but the worst is over. Is that what’s worrying you?”

Cameron shook his head, looking down at his feet that were swinging lazily. “I didn’t listen to General O’Neill.” Cameron sighed.

“He gave you advice?”

“Not exactly. What he said was…that Jackson and Sam would drive me crazier than anyone I’d ever met, but when they get hurt, the world stops. I thought he might just be getting sentimental in his old age.”

Carolyn smiled. “Well, the Mountain certainly stops. When the alarm went off and everyone knew it was SG-1 coming in, I didn’t have to order a medical team to the gateroom. Pretty much everyone in this place ran down there, carrying every piece of equipment they could get their hands on.”

Cameron chuckled but then his face grew sober. “Is it dangerous, do you think? I’m wondering if I care about them too much. I hugged Sam and Jackson in the gateroom when they got back. Hell, I would’ve hugged Teal’c if he hadn’t looked like he could tear my arms off and beat me to death with them.”

Carolyn shook her head. “The stories of the original SG-1 are legendary. If anything, their determination and bond got them back to Earth when others would have failed. Don’t see your closeness as a problem. See it as a strength.”

Cameron looked up, noticing that Teal’c had appeared in the doorway. “They are awake,” he said simply with a gentle inclination of his head.

Cameron jumped up, but when he reached the doorway, he turned back. “A strength huh?”

Carolyn nodded and Cameron smiled.

“Yeah, I can definitely do that.”
