Pairing: Rodney/Jack (PegB)
Rating: PG
Notes: The prompt - Jack/Rodney, pegB! pre-slashy situation that has high sexual tension! maybe off-world
Disclaimer: Don't own, don't sue!

Note 2: You'll have to forgive me that this isn't offworld... and also it doesn't really fit into the timeline anywhere... just a moment between Rodney and Jack.

Rodney stopped dead, sugary donut halfway to his mouth when he was only a few steps into his lab.

Sitting inside, looking like he was waiting patiently for something, was Jack O’Neill. Jack was perched on one of the lab’s torturous metal stools but the way he was slouched, it might as well have been an overstuffed armchair.

Rodney wondered how on earth he did that.

More importantly, he wondered why on earth Jack was here.

“I’m sorry, was I supposed to be doing something for you?” Rodney asked, his voice a little high. He winced and buried his head in the stack of notes he’d been carrying. He’d been looking forward to a solid morning of railing against the other scientists and pointing out just why they were far stupider than he was and now he was completely derailed.

Jack looked up, his expression mild. His arms were crossed loosely over his chest, hands cupping his elbows. “Doctor Beckett said you needed someone to touch stuff,” Jack half-shrugged, a gentle lifting of one shoulder.

“Doctor… I asked Carson to come down and touch stuff. I didn’t mean for him to recruit someone else.”

Jack smirked. “Seems to me the Doc is a might twitchy about this Ancient technology. I would say it’s probably better that he doesn’t touch anything. Anyway, I wasn’t doing much and I’ve hardly been down here. Most people could tell you I practically lived in the labs at the SGC.”

“Yeah but that’s because of Sa-“ Rodney bit down on his tongue, effectively cutting off the sentence that most likely would have resulted in O’Neill impressively decking him. He’d heard rumours about Samantha Carter and Colonel O’Neill, nothing he would repeat and expect to live.

Something dark and unreadable passed across Jack’s face but was gone almost as quickly. He spread his hands and stood. “If you don’t need me-“

“No! Wait, I need you,” Rodney blurted, making halting gestures with his hands. “I mean I need you to… touch stuff,” Rodney corrected and could feel warmth flood his cheeks. Jack didn’t look phased in the least. He simply sat back down and reached across the table in front of him for a small, smooth silver device.

“Except that!” Rodney exclaimed and Jack’s hand froze, millimeters from the object. He raised an eyebrow and looked back at Rodney.

“Sorry, force of habit. I go for the shiny first.” Jack looked up at Rodney and his expression was once again unreadable, but complex. “When usually it’s the thing you don’t notice on first glance that turns out to be far more interesting underneath. You know?”

Rodney felt himself flush again.

“Yeah, I know exactly.”
