Snippet but I'm not sure where this is going yet... sometimes the pranks could be a deflection.
When Dean gets back to their room, Sam has his back to the door, lying on the bed, spine straight and pissed off which Dean always thinks is a pretty neat trick. He lies down on his own bed and just stares at Sam’s back, knowing his brother can feel it but also mostly too wired to stop. Sam loses the battle of wills, it’s always a fifty-fifty competition with them, and slides into sleep first.
While Sammy is sleeping, Dean carefully ties his sneaker laces together because Sam never undoes them, just kinda steps into them and jigs around till his feet are settled which drives Dean crazy. He goes into the bathroom and squeezes all the toothpaste out of Sam’s tube, leaving nothing but a curled up husk behind and then superglues the last three pages of the book Sam is currently reading together, glues them to the inside back cover and glues that to the bedside table.
Dean can work through Sam being angry at him. The other expression though from earlier that night is something that puts cold sweat on Dean’s back. The confusion because Sam senses that he should be angry with Dean but can’t quite put his finger on the why. Dean can deal with revenge-Sam but he isn’t too ready for figuring-it-all-out Sam.
Maybe someday he will be, but not today.
