My neighbours are having a loud, thumpy party which admittedly is an abberation rather than the rule so I'm fine with it... however I would like to be able to sleep sometime soon.

Anyway, have another meme... Five things with a bit of a difference...

The Five characters (good *and* bad) in Fandom you adore and why...

The Good Guys...

Redeemed!Faith (Buffy) -
I have to qualify because there is also Evil!Faith (see below... is that cheating?). My love for Faith (I just had a thought, do we actually ever find out her last name??) knows no bounds. She's flawed, fun, practical and just aching for someone to care about her. She has pride but knows when to let it go and even though she makes some bad choices, she also lets others take the lead when she knows it's best for everyone. (I adored everything about the show Buffy, but the character you pretty much just wanted to thwap upside the head towards the end there).

John Crichton (Farscape) -
The madder he got, the funnier he got. I just adore the ensemble as a whole and Aeryn Sun would run a very close second... actually, scratch that. John and Aeryn together make up my favourite doomed/revived romance ever.

Dean Winchester (SPN) -
Okay, I resisted the lure of Supernatural for the longest time, and admittedly I ended up only watching it because of Jared P (Cute!Dean from Gilmore Girls... and boy is that ever confusing? I wonder if for the first couple of months of filming he kept highlighting the wrong lines in the script because he was a "Dean" for five years). I was a bit ambivalent in my watching, this show is a slow burner. You can't just catch one ep and decide, at least I couldn't. Instead, that very first time Dean calls his Father when they have to go back to the Winchester house and there's tears in his eyes and he sounds so... yeah. Just killed me right there.

That and "Daddy... please..."

Wesley (Angel) -
I'm specifying Angel because the Buffy!Wesley didn't interest me much. I just... he tried so very hard, went a little evil, slept with the wrong person and kept a girl in his closet. Hey, we've all been there. (Maybe not...)

Watching him lay in the hospital with his throat slashed and seeing his friends come in and say, "Hey, we hate you now, boo!" was just awful. I adored his friendship with Gunn and with pre!glowy where-the-hell-did-that-storyline-come-from-and-where-did-you-put-the-character-I-liked Cordy and his starkness towards the end.

Oz (Buffy) -
Mostly because you just want to be mates with him. That and I have a sizable crush on Seth Green and probably always will, even though he's a wee little puppet man (ok, not a puppet). But anyway, he's just that cool guy you knew when you were sixteen who was really laid back and everyone liked and would be annoying if he wasn't so nice...

Honourable mentions

Wash (Firefly) - "Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayel!" The dinosaurs, the floral shirts, the way my heart hurt when I saw the movie.

Mal Reynolds (Firefly) - Nathon Fillion... I just adore everything you do.

The Bad Guys...

Evil!Faith -
Okay, having Faith twice might be cheating but there I am with my love with no bounds that I had to repeat it.

Yes, getting gipped on your calling might not be a good enough reason to go evil, but hey, you can see her point. Her Watcher dies and then the replacement turns out to be an imposter who is just after a weird Freddy Kreuger-looking glove of power. She tries to reach out and gets shot down time and again. And can I just say, who the hell would let a seventeen year old girl stay in a roach motel when they have a huge house?? Why didn't anyone take her in???

Okay, I get story-wise that it was more dramatic to show the difference between her motel-life and the life the Mayor afforded her and you understood why she chose him over her "friends" (read: people who were disinterested in her from the start). Kendra got the "Wow, neat, another slayer!" while Faith seemed to get the "Ho, hum, another slayer. How annoying."

Faith blossomed under a little attention, unfortunately it was from the wrong person. Seeing her turnaround, afforded by Angel actually taking an interest in her, and you could see how she might've been on that path all along if the right people had just done that from the start.

Mayor Wilkins (Buffy) -
First off, let me just say that it always amused me because Richard Wilkins is a B Grade celebrity in Australia with bouffant hair so thinking of him as the big bad was just hi-larious.

Anyway, my favourite of the big bads, mostly because of the glee he took in being who he was.

Jayne Cobb(Firefly) -
Okay, so yes, technically *not* a bad guy in the traditional sense, but better at being bad than most *written* bad guys. I guess what makes him slot into the bad guy category is that he sometimes *chose* the wrong thing willingly, knowingly.

Plus, he was just such fun.

Scorpious (Farscape) -
Just ludicrously, deliciously fun! Can I also say that I loved the Skarrons? (I have no idea how you spell that - although I'm pretty sure spelling it like Sharon is wrong...!) Maybe I'll just be ultra aussie about it and call them the skazzas...

Sark (Alias) -
You gotta love a bad guy who has an appreciation of red wine and turning state's evidence at the drop of a hat and who keeps getting away! He spills truth like water so half the time no one believes him and he's only ever out for himself. Alias took me a little by surprise and while some of it was plain ludicrous, it was fun nevertheless.

Also, I have a guy in my office who looks like Vaughn. *happy sigh*
