-> I have a FOUR day weekend for my birthday. That is the most awesome thing EVA.

-> I will be spending most of it (when not eating cake) coding my Big Bang and finishing my Charity fics.

-> I'm now so SUPER keen about experimenting in the world of podficage. I want my speccy microphone NOW NOW NOW. I want to start figuring out the software that looks kinda daunting and I'm am completely non-tech savvy. Heh. I'm hoping that I sound okay and don't sound like I'm TWELVE like I do on my work voicemail for some reason. I've also downloaded a bunch and am making my way through them but if anyone else has any recs please feel free to still drop them by. It'll be something I can listen to on the way to and from work that won't make me as angry as talk radio.

-> Hmmm... Amazon shopping spree is hopefully in my future as when people have asked this year I've told them that's what I want for my birthday because our dollar is super strong and I've had STUFF on my wishlist for ages. (Invader Zim box set in the HOUSE... CUTE!!).

Hehehee... let me know if you ever need a test listener. :D I'm planning on just committing some of my own to pod ficcage although I've already had some fics being held up to sacrifice by others... hee!

I got pointed in the direction of this mic (http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Yeti-USB-Microphone/dp/B002VA464S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307189538&sr=8-1) and I think I might make it my totally indulgent birthday present to myself. :D

Mostly I'm just trying to figure out how to filter all the background noise out. I got most of it down, but there's still this persistent buzzing sound that keeps on popping up in my recordings, le sigh. I can get rid of it if I turn the mic sensitivity down, but then my voice isn't as loud as I want it to be on the recording.

That is one intimidating looking mic. It will bring nothing but good things, I can tell. JUST LOOK AT IT.

Are you using Audacity (which seems to be the one everyone recommends)? I've just been checking out some hints and tips sections of this post (http://newbieguide.livejournal.com/26178.html) and on one of the tutorials there was something specifically about eliminating background noise which I'm going to have to come back to when I start playing around. :D

I'm hoping the mic is good! I'll probably need all the help I can get and it kind of looks like an old-school mike which I like. :D

I am indeed using Audacity! and yes, Audacity does have a nifty feature to eliminate background noise, but at the same time, I've found, it also eliminates some of the natural noise too / makes it sound tinny and echoey. It works on a sliding gradient though, so you have to find the right amount of noise to remove and to keep in.

I'm assuming there'll be lots of playing around I'll need to do but should be fun! :D

I want my mic NAOOOOO! Hehehee... I'm impatient when it comes to new shiny things.
