Random things are random

I keep getting these random sock-puppet account comments on entries. The first one was kind of confusing and I thought it was someone in my RL being almost passive!agressive abusive and saying hey, I found your journal, you're a weirdo and I was about to panic and delete everything and disappear but I've gotten another couple and they are more rambly and weird and don't really make sense but they mention Snape and I've never written anything about HP in my life.

You know those Haiku generators that would generate Haikus of random words in your journal? These comments are almost like those, disjointed phrases and half-words and I seem to be getting someone elses... who is in the HP fandom.

So, in short, I don't have to delete my journal and run for the hills because while I have a few trusted RL souls who know I do this - it's not actually something I discuss because it's one of the rare things in my life that's just for and about me and no one else and it would be ruined if it were touched by outside hands.

Not-really-a-crisis averted.

It's a Russian spambot. It's been hitting a lot of journals lately. Remember to delete and mark as spam :-)

Delete comments and mark as spam. They're from bots and a crapload of people are getting hit by them. Interestingly, when you get the email notification for a lot of them (if your email from LJ is set up to see html) there's a crapload of html that doesn't appear on LJ that appears to be spam/porn sites.

I set up an email account yesterday because my stupid msn one that I use for most of my 'see me I'm an adult' emails frequently blocks emails without my knowledge. So I debated just sending it on my 'gestaltrose' one but then I remembered what you get when you google my username. So, paranoid me just made up a new one just for this one email.

I've had exactly the same thing happen to me recently.

I had a comment left on one of my fics which was basically just a jumble of letters and numbers and then another comment (to the same story) that was a random remark about Harry Potter. I've never been involved in the HP Fandom.

I deleted both and marked them as spam. Thought it was very strange though so I'm relieved that it's a bot, I assumed as much but couldn't help feeling targeted. Phewy.

I'm pretty sure it's spam. (Like the sorts of accounts that copy/paste off of someone else's journal and dump it on yours... Or whatever.)
