I'm not planning on migrating completely to Dreamwidth because it took a long time to build up the community feeling I have here, but if anyone has an invite code I would be quite grateful because I recognise that a lot of people are absconding and I want to keep track of them.

It doesn't have to be now, when it goes into open beta is fine - kellifer_k at yahoo dot com.

I just hope people do keep a presence here because I wasn't planning on migrating completely, but if it ends up being just me and the tumbleweeds then I might have to.

If you're already on DW, can you please leave your username here in a comment so I can find you when I do make an account? (I really need to start mem'ing people's entries who are dropping their usernames now because I've noticed the majority trend is to not have the same username).

I've got my openid account set up there at the moment, but as soon as possible, I'm setting up a main account (or two). I'm sticking with theladyscribe - the other account will not be linked to my fannish activities so I can point friends and family to it when I go to Egypt in the fall.

I'm exactly the same over there: oxoniensis. I would have cried if anyone else had taken the name!

Really? Why do people migrate like that? :(
I'll prolly get an account with the same name and just make it a clone.

I hope everyone doesn't leave LJ! I'm not leaving and I'd hate to be the only one here.

I plan to be hanging around here, since 1 - I'm so computer illiterate and busy that I've never even heard of dreamwidth and have enough trouble keeping up with LJ!! LOL!

I'd put good money on most people staying right where they are... but I can't help get distracted by the shiny twinklieness of dw. I'm nomelon over there too.

I'm not leaving LJ. Unless of course *everybody* migrates and, as you said, it'be me and the tumbleweeds.

And sorry, I don't have invites. I didn't even know you'd need one to get an account. Pfft!

Once they're in open beta, people will be able to purchase a paid account (minimum $3 for one month of paid time) without an invite code, but if you want a free account you'll still need an invite code (which they're planning on releasing more of as often as possible). They're doing it so they can maintain a ratio of paid accounts to free accounts such that they can support the site without advertising.

I'm beatrice_otter over there, too. I'll be maintaining my LJ for the forseeable future as a clone of my DW. One of the things they're working on is making it possible to import your LJ friends into DW, so on your DW reading page you'll have posts from LJ friends as well as DW friends, which will make maintaining community across different platforms doable. Right now, they still haven't solved the problem of letting you see flocked entries you would have access to if you were actually at your Friends page, and they won't by open beta. With the number of really smart programmers they've got working for them, it should eventually be doable. If I couldn't keep up with my LJ friends on DW, I wouldn't be moving even as much as I plan on doing.

I'm staying. I do have an Open ID page over there, but unless LJ totally breaks down, I'll probably be staying over here.

Not leaving LJ until it's tumbleweeds. But I want DW as a backup fic archive, and am planning to use the same handle.

I have no idea what this DreamWidth thing is. Why is it so popular?

I'm sort of a computer illiterate, so I probably won't switch unless all of fandom does. I've heard that you might be able to post on both at the same time? True? Or am I silly? It looks like such a neat concept though. Time will tell.

I just heard of DreamWidth not even two days ago, and now it seems like half my flist is switching over. I get that it's another journal site, but what makes it so special that everyone is switching over?

I'm happy using LJ and IJ and probably won't make a DW account unless most of my flist crosses over (and someone gives me an invite code).

I too am confuzzled by the sudden switchiness of my flist :(
I guess if somebody invited me I'd set up something there, but 2 journalling sites for now is enough.

I'm over there already... I'm not leaving LJ completely but I'm not going to be posting the same content to both Journals. I'm not really sure how I'm going to use the pair yet, but we'll see!

not leaving lj. nope not doing it. BUT...if I got an invite code I would set up a clone account...maybe. But lj is my homebase. So you won't be alone with the tumbleweeds.
