There's been a couple of fics I've started and for various reasons haven't finished (yet I keep saying). Some I've actually done the horrible thing and started posting them. I usually have fics finished before I start posting but these there's been the 2nd and sometimes 3rd parts with betas still when I've started posting and there's been some major plot flaws or something just wasn't working in the next parts or I've decided I hated it which sometimes happens.
So for my birthday I'm going to have a mini finish-a-thon. Read the quick primer on the stories I feel most guilty about letting linger and it will be done (oh yes! It will be done)before during just after the weekend of my birthday.
These are by no means all the current wips I have... just the ones I could see myself getting done in the allotted time. :D
Abscido - SGA - Gen.
Originally meant to be John/Rodney/Ronon but...I'm kinda fickle that way and once started sometimes my stories have their own ideas how they want to be written. The number of times I've gone to finish this story. I really need to get it done for my own sanity. First chapter is here and there's actually a second chapter that has never seen the light of day.
Summary: Sateda is a nation standing against the Wraith. Once mighty, they now rely on raids to other worlds to fill their military. On Ra-Yeda, circumstance leads to the capture of two men who may be their downfall.
Abscido : to cut off, to separate, take away.
Snippet: There had been a time, long ago and far away in the memory, where there was no war and to serve in the Satedan army had been just a way of getting the vote and securing borders that didn’t mean anything anymore. There hadn’t been any war to speak of for the longest time and those that remembered it were grey and doddering.
They thought they were safe, at the very edge of the galaxy, on the knife’s edge of being in the next. They closed the Gate of the Ancestors and no one came.
For the longest time.
The first Hive ship to hit their skies was looked on with awe and wonder.
They had forgotten to be afraid.
Close The Doors, Shutter The Sky - SPN, Gen
I like this idea so much and yet... I really need to write it. It was just one of those stories that burned too brightly that it flared out when I wasn't finished it yet. The actual first scene of this story I wrote was Dean bartering with the Ferryman. Sam does die in this story... but not for very long.
Summary: Death is an obstacle. Just a small bump in the road.
Snippet: Sam is jogging back towards him through the long grass and Dean is turning. Sam is saying something like, “Doubled back I think. I lost-” and that’s when the bullet clips him. Sam loses the rest of the sentence in a surprised bark and then he’s down on his knees and pitching forward, swallowed by the knee-high growth.
All Dean is left with is a burning No.
Dean catches sight of two men coming fast through the grass and he vaguely recognises them. Father and son from the farm they’d stayed at while tracking the Black Dog. He and Sam had told them to stay out of it, they were professionals.
“I think I hit something,” the son is calling back to his father and Dean brings out the revolver he has tucked into the back of his pants and aims it at them. The father stops before the boy does, too shocked to bring up his own rifle and Dean nearly pulls the trigger.
Nearly.
“Run away from me as fast as you can,” he growls into the darkness.
and every where that Mary went, SPN, John/Mary - Winchesters
This I just started and then kind of... dropped. But I like it and I want to go back to it.
Summary: Mary survives. That's just the beginning.
Snippet: Mary and John sit side by side as Missouri Mosley lays it all out for them. John didn’t know what he’d been expecting when they’d walked into the house of the eighth psychic they had tried, but the woman tamping out her incense and ushering them through from the room draped in colorful throws and candle light and out back to her kitchen had been a surprise.
Dean is sprawled on the tiled floor, coloring with an intensity beyond his years, very determined to get the puppy he's working on the exact right shade of blue. Missouri has Sammy in her arms, the baby held against her and blessedly quiet for the first time in days. That is enough for John to be eternally grateful to the woman.
The Beggar's Cup - SPN, Dean/Jess, previous Sam/Jess
This one I kind of backed away from because it would be hard. And urgh, I really do avoid kid!fic most of the time but there's just something about Dean with kids...
Summary: Sam left Jess. Dean stayed.
Snippet: Dean landed on his back as the burglar held him down with familiar large hands. He blinked, hoping they hadn't woken Jessica. "Sam?"
“Surprised to see me?” Sam asked, a ghost of a grin on his face that Dean could only make out by the flash of white teeth. “You getting soft?” To this Dean growled and hooked his leg up and over, managing to flip them both so he had Sam pinned instead. “Huh, maybe not.”
Somewhere deeper in the house, Thomas started wailing because he’d obviously heard the noise and hated missing anything. “Dadeeeeeeee!” Dean looked down the hallway and then back at Sam, letting up on the forearm he had pressed lightly over Sam’s throat.
Within - SPN/Aliens, Gen
I stuffed an element of this story and the Aliens canon completely in the second part of this story and actually need to rewrite the whole thing. Which is why I've been dragging my feet about it... Now mentally I know where I want it to go but I always have trouble going back to a story once I break from it... First part posted here.
Summary: Dean didn't want much out of life. Just to travel to LV-426 and find his brother, whole and alive.
Snippet: "That's why they spaced me," Sam says in a small voice, knees drawn up to his chest. "They were afraid."
Intermediate Directions - SG1/SPN, Dean/Daniel
I... don't know where this one came from.
Snippet: “You were in the tour group,” Daniel says with a little wonder and the guy blinks, his gun lowering a little.
“Say what?”
“This afternoon. You and some tall guy,” he says, clicking his fingers. “You were flirting with the tour guide while the other guy…” Daniel turns slowly, looking back at the case he’s just liberated the medallion from. “Oh my god, you were casing the joint,” he accuses and now the gun goes all the way down and the guy looks more than a little startled, before he seems to recover.
“So were you, evidently,” he says, gun raising again and he reaches forward, hand snaking into Daniel’s jacket and snagging the medallion. “Now this is-”
“Dangerous,” they both finish together.
“Okay, who are you?” the guy demands, now looking nothing but pissed off, like maybe Daniel has come in and stepped all over his sandcastle at the beach.

I couldn't even go near The Beggar's Cup because the idea of it just hurt too much.
Yay!

Hee! This is my dilemma - I had this pretty much fully-formed story just work itself out in my brain but it was in no way a happy story for all concerned...

It was really, really hard to pick between Close the Door, Mary went and The Beggar's Cup, but I did, dammit, so CtDStS it is. It sounds intriguing.
Just so you know, I came thisclose to selecting The Beggar's Cup ticky box. Truth be told, any fic by you would be amazing, so it's all win-win.

I want 'Within', and I chose 'Close the Doors...' but I feel like 'The Beggars Cup' just may be a winner also.

I think both Close the Door, Shutter the Sky and The Beggar's Cup sound amazing. If I had to choose, I would probably pick The Beggar's Cup, because I am a total sucker for Dean with kids, but even more so when it's a twisted and hard backstory. It sounds like it could be so different than anything I've read, and that intrigues me like nothing else.
::crosses fingers:: Can't wait to see what happens with these!
