I actually had an idea for your story but it hinges on something very important... do we ever see Teal'c read in the very early eps of S1?

Well, we see him making his nifty Pictionary drawings in First Commandment, and he knows Linear A (aka "a variation of Goa'uld") in Brief Candle, but we never see him writing or reading English until he's busy with his tabloids in S4.

No, wait, I'm wrong. Hammond hands him a baseball cap in Cold Lazarus and Teal'c is able to read "Chicago." If necessary, though, you can handwave it that Jack taught him that one word, since it's how he introduced himself: "Where are you from?" "Earth, Chicago, if you want to get specific."

Daniel teaching Teal'c to read? Wheeeee! :)
