So, I have a couple of questions for a fic and I'm sure I could google or wiki it but...

- What kind of complications could arise from a heart transplant?

- What are the considerations? Do blood types have to match etc...?

- What's the recovery like?

Basically I'm going to be using "science-fiction" rather than science - alien technology, but there are some things that would still work the same...

This is for my second sweet charity fic so any help would be appreciated... I've completely changed what I'm writing... again... *bites fingernails*

If I remember correctly, the blood types used usually are ABO or RH-. And I think O- is the universal blood type... or maybe it's O... I forget exactly. WebMD.com will help out with that in specifics. There's a risk of rejection, resulting in being on imunno-supressors for life, which means when you get sick, to the hospital you go, or you're boned. Recovery time, 6 to 10 weeks, since they have to break the sternum to get to the heart and it takes a long time to heal that up. As it is, the sternum bones would never quite be the same again, they'd be a constant weak point, preventing the playing of a lot of sports, or even playing with kids. Kids can be rough. um, Blood transfusions carry a risk of damage to the liver. Overall, your health would be not the same, a bit weaker, a bit slower, not by a large margin, but still. Annurism has a higher probability. Uuuum... That's I can think of right now. It's late.
