“We were landlocked where I lived,” Ronon explains. “Before I became… I had never seen a body of water bigger than a lake.”

They’re sitting out on the furthermost tip of the pier that wraps Atlantis. Daniel has one thumb hooked through the piece of leather thong encircling Ronon’s wrist, an identical one on his own. Woven through them both is two pieces of their hair. Daniel had thought the Athosian bonding ceremony was a little hokey but times like these, quiet and alone, he’s secretly thankful.

Ronon’s legs are long enough and the tide high enough that his bare toes are brushing the water. Daniel’s rest just shy but every now and again Ronon will kick up a few drops, splattering against Daniel’s calves.

“Was Sateda beautiful?” Daniel asks. The sun is setting and there’s nothing quite like it. He misses the sunsets from home, always will, but they seem to be uniformly spectacular no matter what planet you’re currently residing on.

“The city wasn’t very. We’d had a bit of a building boom and it was pretty industrial but the countryside…” Ronon takes a long breath, one large hand coming to rest on Daniel’s knee, fingers making lazy circles. “My grandfather had a farm, liked doing things the old ways. Kreesher flowers had nearly taken over the house and the smaller biloxes,” Ronon adds and when Daniel quirks an eyebrow, says, “Small pack animals. They would come right up to the house. I had a couple sleeping in my bed when I stayed.”

“Sounds nice,” Daniel says, eyes drooping half-closed, lulled by the hypnotic movement of Ronon’s fingers that edge higher as the temperature dips. Daniel clamps his thighs together, trapping Ronon’s hand and grins. “Speaking of nice but getting possibly inappropriate in a public place.”

“Public?” Ronon snorts, using his free hand to indicate just how very alone they are with a wide sweep. Daniel grasps Ronon’s trapped wrist with his other hand and tugs it free of his legs, bringing it up to his neck and holding it against his pulse point.

“The scientists are testing the surveillance equipment they’ve set up around the borders of the city.”

“So someone… could be watching us right now?” Ronon asks, his voice dipping to a low, dusky growl that has the hairs on the back of Daniel’s neck standing on end.
