“That’s a big fuckin’ dog man.”
Dean looked down at the animal by his feet, who regarded him in turn, canting its head and, if Dean wasn’t mistaken, rolling its eyes.
“Not a dog. That’s a wolf.”
“Are you allowed to have a wolf as a pet?”
This time there was a long-suffering sigh, and not from him.
“He’s not a pet,” he said.

“I’m trying alright?”
The big black wolf rested his head in Dean’s lap and blinked soulful eyes up at him.
“Yeah, I know,” Dean sighed and buried fingers in the thick fur covering the large skull. He then tugged on one overlarge ear. He and Sam had been hit by a whammy of some kind about three hours earlier and now Sam wasn’t exactly himself.
“Look, just stop giving me the puppy-dog eyes,” Dean grumbled and as the low growl started up in Sam’s chest, Dean grimaced, realizing what he’d said.
“Sorry man, no offense.”
Sam put his giant jaws around Dean’s thigh and applied light pressure, the growl growing a little louder. Dean, looking down, was uncomfortably aware that Sam in his current form could possibly bite Dean’s leg off.
“Look, if I die of bloodloss then I can’t find a way to un-curse you, can I?” Dean thwapped Sam on the head with the book he was reading and Sam let go, casting one more baleful glance in Dean’s direction, before padding over to one of the beds.
“Hey, not on the furniture,” Dean said and Sam looked at him again and then moved over to Dean’s pack of clothes and cocked a leg.
“Oh don’t you dare,” Dean warned. “I will get you neutered, I swear to god!”
Sam lowered his leg slowly and let out a pitiful whine.
“Yeah, that’s what I thought.”

When Sam opened his eyes and held very human hands in front of himself, he was relieved for approximately three point four seconds.
That was how long it took him to notice the lean grey wolf on the other bed.
“Oh for chrissakes” he groaned, throwing himself back on the bed. When he opened his eyes again, the wolf was still there and was regarding him. Sam frowned.
“Dude, are those my socks?”
Dean opened his mouth and a pair of balled up socks fell out and rolled across the floor.
“Man, I told you you were doing that spell wrong,” Sam sighed and when the wolf formerly known as Dean actually glared at him, Sam grimaced.
“Well, okay, I was thinking it."
