Went and saw the Aussie premiere screening of Clerks 2 with Kevin Smith introducing and then doing a QA afterwards.
I was a little dubious but friends had organised and it was in a cool old theatre in the city so thought what the hell.
Kevin was funny and engaging and only made the one convict joke (there's always one... *sigh*). He kinda rambled during the QA session afterwards, but that was mostly because of the obscure questions he was getting asked. Only one person tried the "What's a nubian?" joke and it was worth it just for the deadly silence afterwards.
The movie... don't get me wrong. I loved the original Clerks and Mallrats, I didn't mind Chasing Amy and adored Dogma. I hated Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back with a firey vengeance (or, you know, with apathy).
This was the right kind of funny with enough gasp out loud shocking-ness to make it worth it. I think the right audience helped, a theatre packed very obviously with die hard fans (if the amount of KevinSmith movie-related t-shirts could attest). If you're not such a person, I probably wouldn't bother making the trek to the cinema, but if you've had a crappy day and just want something to kick back and laugh at, get this on dvd.
