Summary: "Wanna wait until I've been home at least a day before starting to
call me names?" he asks and smiles gently. "Only polite after all."
He is sitting on the couch and he has been quiet ever since they got back to his house. Sam is moving about his kitchen with practiced ease, throwing out old Chinese cartons and in the midst of this, finds a pizza box sitting on top of the stove with half a pizza still inside.
"You're a pig!" she calls out. There is silence from the other room and she wonders if he's fallen asleep but then he is in the doorway, a hip leaning against the jamb. He looks tired and there are deep shadows like bruises under his eyes.
"Wanna wait until I've been home at least a day before starting to call me names?" he asks and smiles gently. "Only polite after all."
"Sorry," she mumbles and blushes, turning to his sink and starting in on the glasses that have dry-crusted beer in the bottom. She decides they all need to soak before she can attack them properly and so goes about filling each one with a couple of fingers of water. She can still feel his gaze on her back and knows that now is one of those inopportune times when they may get very close to breaking rules.
She's close, in any case.
"I thought I was hallucinating," Jack says softly, and his voice drags her around to face him as surely as if he had reached out and turned her with his hands.
"No Sir, I'm really cleaning your kitchen."
"Not that." He waves a dismissive hand and it's only half-hearted and drops halfway through the gesture, betraying how truly tired he is. "I open my eyes and you're looking at me from a ship and you looked… annoyed," he chuckles.
"You wouldn't wake up," Sam says, a small frown creasing her brow. "I thought maybe you were already…"
"Believe me, if Teal'c didn't have that nifty Kel-No-Reem thing then I would've been… you know."
"I know," she says softly. She still has one of his beer glasses in her hand and grips it so tightly that it cracks.
She doesn't notice and although he does, he doesn't remark on it.
"I wasn't surprised though," Jack says, crossing the room to her and gently removing the glass before it breaks and slices her hand open. "I think we were both just waiting for you guys to show up."
"We didn't think we'd make it in time." Sam shook her head, raising a hand to rub at her forehead and leaving a wet smudge behind.
"You didn't?" Jack raises an eyebrow and Sam realizes that this is actually a lie.
Of course they had been going to make it in time. Sam hadn't actually doubted it, but only because people like Jack O'Neill didn't die in the cold of space. That was what had kept her going.
"But we did," she says, smiling.
"Never doubted it for a second. Now, if you'll excuse me, I think I have to pass out for about three days."
"Sure, Sir," Sam nods and watches him retreat from the kitchen. He pauses in the doorway.
"You didn't have to, you know," he says softly.
"Save you?" Sam wasn't sure why he would think that.
"Clean my kitchen," he clarifies with a grin. "But I appreciate it."
"No problem." Sam grins back.

I like it when they are in this "sharing" mode that they tend to not necessarily understand one another, i.e., the cleaning of the kitchen/saving Jack thing. You did it well here.
Btw, love your Jack voice. Always spot on.

Everyone could use more happy icons....especially ones of Jack, Daniel, Teal'c, Cameron, John, Carson, Rodney, Ronon...*trails off, cuz that list would go on for a while*

Is it just me or Kinsey much more of an ass in Politics than in later seasons?

I actually thought I'd seen every episode but Hathor. (which I don't have to watch as it did not happen because Peter Deluise is magic like woah.) So... Hathor and Tangent. And then I am good.
