-> Firstly - happy New Year guys. Man, was it ever hard to get up for work this morning, yikes. (the 2nd, not the 1st, ye gads) I was off since the 23rd and it was a nice little break but as my alarm went off this morning, I wondered why on earth I hadn't taken off today and tomorrow also. I was tempted to schlub at home like my flatmates ended up doing for New Years Eve but no, I girded myself and actually went to a party. It was a costume party so I went as a Steampunk Fairy and ended up having a lovely time and got lots of compliments which is always a good start to the year. :)
-> Speaking of which - Check out Vintage or Tacky - for the costume party - I used the steampunk makeup tutorial which was super clear and easy to follow. I didn’t even have to do a trial - worked great and looked awesome first time. I had it playing on a tablet sat next to me in front of my bedroom mirror. She’s inspired me to branch out and buy makeup and crazy stuff like blush and bronzer which I NEVER do. I’ve always been a foundation and eyeliner girl but looking at photos of me from the party, I’m actually happy with them and how I looked which I NEVER am. Was super helpful to me because she basically has my complexion and eye colour which was awesome.
I mean, is it just me, or is makeup an "assumed knowledge" for girls? I'm in my thirties and still had no idea what I was doing. I was a foundation and eyeliner girl because I had NO CLUE how to do anything else. I've basically been checking out youtube tutorials and nabbing stuff they recommend and am levelling up slowly on the makeup stuff. I mean, I didn't even know what brushes to use and that using a big fluffy brush to put on your powder rather than the crappy sponge that comes with it is MUCH better and PRIMER. My god - eye makeup that DIDN'T GO ANYWHERE THE ENTIRE NIGHT because of primer. I was terrified of liquid eyeliner and didn't even know that gel eyeliner was a thing.
