LJ - stop trying to make me use your ugly new posting interface. I will click 'use old version' while it is available EVERY TIME.

Did a little test record for preparation for podfic recordage and either my computer or the microphone have decided that a LOUD background hum is what my recordings need. I tried noise removal but it just doesn't get rid of it properly or if I'm really vicious with it, it flattens out the voice and it sounds weird. It's so super frustrating because I am using the exact same equipment I have used before and I was like, maybe I hadn't noticed or noise-removed it before but no, checked a work in progress and it has NOTHING, no background hum - just the kind of shushing noise that noise removal takes care of.

I'm not sure whether it's the microphone or the laptop that's the issue. I'm investing in a new tablet on the weekend so might give it a bash but maybe it's because my microphone has been sitting in a drawer unloved for a few months. Might need to invest in a new USB microphone.

Anyone got any other ideas I could try?
