I have such a weakness for certain cliche tropes and human needing protection in supernatural gatherings is definitely a good one! :) Actually Lost Girl does this well where the human sidekick goes to the fairy bar and all the fairies are like "who owns this human?" And disgruntled she huffs, "no one owns me!" as her fairy friend says, "I own her." Awesome.
