That meme thing...

I don't do these very often and am not sure if anyone would be interested...

The Kick Me In the...Head! Meme

Ask me anything you want about any of my stories: how I thought of the idea, what I did to write it, what I was thinking when I wrote it, what I feel about it now, what I wish I'd done differently, etc. Or ask any of the characters from particular stories something you want to know, and get an answer from them. Or both.

Hmmmm...

I'll get back to you this evening...

'cos yeah, this is fun!

I had no idea this would catch on so quickly!

Okay, I pick this one:

"Working It Out"
Picture from: annerbhp
Is: PG
Summary: Despite all this, she had never really been able to figure out Teal’c.

Samantha Carter prided herself on being able to figure things out.

When she was twelve she had taken apart her Father’s Oldsmobile, just to put it back together again. He had been concerned but he had let her go because he had always said he couldn’t stand up to her ‘determined’ face.

Okay, so Daniel had swanned in and figured out how to reach Abydos using the Stargate, but she had allowed for stellar drift, making it possible to travel to hundreds of other worlds.

She was pretty sure she would crack the anti-gravity device they had locked up in Area 52 when she had a spare moment and she was well on her way to backwards engineering the baby stargate Orlin had created in her basement, although that was a side project… that no one really knew about.

Despite all this, she had never really been able to figure out Teal’c.

It was December twenty-five, a holiday for most people but just another day on the calendar for her. She was working in her lab on the piece of what looked like Ancient tech that SG-19 had dragged back through the ‘gate and Teal’c sat beside her, patiently holding a pair of pliers that looked like a toy in his broad hands and was putting up with her saying every now and again, “Okay, a bit higher… now a bit to the left… hold her steady…”

As they decided to break for lunch, she trailed him down the hallway, noting how people would skirt out of his way but smile at him while doing it and he would incline his head in greeting to each and every one.

As she set her tray down opposite Teal’c, pulling the blue jello towards her that was mercifully procured because the unfortunate kitchen staff that were stuck in the Mountain on Christmas knew she was there as well, she decided to ask.

“The General said you were going to spend the holiday with family,” she said, digging her spoon into the jello, breaking the perfectly flat surface at the top which was always her favourite part about eating it.

“I am,” Teal’c said simply, a small smile flitting across his face, almost too quick for her to catch.

Sam felt warmth flood through her and a smile wash over her own face.

She didn’t need to figure Teal’c out at all. Every now and again, he would give her a glimpse of the man he was.

That was enough.

What went through your head when you came up with this? Is there anything you would have done differently? Was this before or after Seth (repaired relationship with brother Mark) and if after, why didn't she go to visit him? Did they get the device SG-19 brought back to work and what was it?

Teal'c, how did you know Sam wasn't doing anything for the holiday and what prompted you to spend it with her?

Oooh, I just knew someone was going to pick a Teal'c fic.

Mostly what went through my head was "Oh noes, a Teal'c fic!!" I say time and again that I'm not a very confident Teal'c writer but I guess being pushed into it is a good challenge. :)

I would have placed this fairly early in the series, probably the first Xmas they experienced together so before Seth and before the real reparation of the Mark relationship.

Sam never got the device to work, but she couldn't trash it either because it just reminded her of her bond with Teal'c. It's in her lab still, partially disassembled and Jack teases her about it mercilessly.

Teal'c - "I find this woman fascinating and wanted to spend more time with her because... well, my home didn't seem so far away with her company."
