Fic
But that inspired me to wonder what stories of other people's please you? More specifically:
- What's your go-to story(s)? Those ones you have bookmarked/mem'd/have on a list somewhere and just can read over and over?
- What's that story(s) that hit you like a punch in the gut? Made you say, woah, didn't see that coming?
- What's that story that made you say, yeah, this writer just gets it - just sees the characters the way I do/wrote that story I wanted to/seemingly pried that right out of my head?
- What's that story(s) that first sucked you into a fandom/first story you read in a fandom?
I'll edit this post with my answers when I get home tonight so feel free to come on back. Also I have a loooong overdue long list of fic recs to post. That'll be another thing for tonight.

Big Pink writes EPICS! They go on forever and are complex and rich in detail. The latest story about the trains and hobos was great. Really gave us a view of Dean living alone.
Cheryl W (ff.net -- a Deangirl who likes her whump!!
I'm a Deangirl who loves her whump. So I like strong Sam taking care of Dean. Or any stories that "reveal" Dean either to others or to Sam. When Dean was by himself.
I have a long list, thanks to people like you who introduce me to other great writers! Thank for all the recs and keep them coming.
I have lots more, but these get me.

You can always find me revisiting kimonkey7's work (my favorite has to be the addict!Dean in Good Man is Hard to Find), pdragon76's anything - but usually I start with Blind Spot, bigpink's stories (I've spent many a workday rereading Red, Dazzleland, Punxatawney Sucks, Fire in the Hole), kellifer - I love your stuff and reread it when I need a quick, hearty dose of the boyz and sometimes a chuckle, I reread dodgerwinslow's work (I even go to the favorite chapters of certain pieces of fic), I revisit gaelicspirit when I need some brotherly bonding, you can sometimes find me rereading nilchance & beanside's work for some angst and good whump, when I need some pron my go-to gal is nepthys101 - all her work gets me in the mood (which, yeah, is a little creepy but hey, whatevers works, right?)and leonidaslion - yowza - hot stuff, plus some good Dean whump! Eighthhorizon gives me wonderful AU. Kroki_refur makes me think, laugh, worry, and sometimes scratch my head - which I love!
There are just so, so many more - I know I'm forgetting people. Pretty much every friend on my list gets revisited by me more often than they know...I'm stalkerish that way.

Involuntary Conversion (http://celli.livejournal.com/716304.html) (SPN) always cracks me up. It is crack that works bizarrely well, and for some reason, it has the power to make my worst day slightly better.
Traditionally Speaking (http://niamaea.livejournal.com/39848.html) (SG-1) puts a smile on my face whenever I read it. I just want to hug the team and feed them cookies.
Same thing goes for Folsom Prison Blues (http://eve11.livejournal.com/170280.html) (also SG-1). So much team love.
I think And Fools Shine On (http://gekizetsu.net/sn/and_fools.html) (SPN) might be the first SPN fic I ever read. Or close to the first. At any rate, I adored the poetry of this fic and the way the author captured both brothers fairly early in S1.
Breathe For Me (http://izhilzha.livejournal.com/245883.html) (N3) is a cool moment between two of my favorite Numb3rs characters, and it's just so warm and perfectly captures their voices.

- What's that story(s) that first sucked you into a fandom/first story you read in a fandom?
I don't remember what it was in the Buffy fandom, since I read a few things here and there back when the show had only been on the air a couple of years.
In SPN, it was a story by

My own #1 fav is actually two stories (sorry, but I really can't decide). One is awesome because of the technic used, and the awesome storyline(s), and the other is awesome cuz it actually had me looking over my shoulder at every noise while reading it. They are both oldies (but classics ;) )
The first one is Red (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/3169840/1/) by
Can't tell you what this is about without ruining it, so I'll just say it's made of awesome and hurt!Dean.
The second one is Foreseen (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2705943/1/) by P.L. Wynter. An awesome horror story that will give you chills about the boys and a hunt for the Mothman.
Enjoy!

Also like your fic but the SPN /SGA crossover written last year is the one I love to re read I think because your almost solider Dean is so well written

"Into the Woods" by plutogirl10.
It's the most perfect piece of porn ever, it combines character motivation with the most evocative description. I didn’t know Dean could call Sam “baby” and have it be so hot. This fic is an interlude in the woods that happens after the boys do a training session, where naughty things happen in such a hot way, I’m searching for a cold shower even now. (Wincest)

"And the Highway Lines Pass By" by philalethia.
31,000 words of pure slashy goodness, with a plot and everything. It tells the story of two brothers, how they are different, how they are alike, and the writer, you can tell, has got a grip on what makes these characters tick. Unfortunately, this is also a “last year” story but that only ups the angst by miles and miles. (Wincest)

"We Are All Meant For Chains" by flipmontgirl
I never can stop thinking about this one. It's the story of Dean and Sam coming together and then going apart and them coming together again. Arguments he and Dean had, memories they shared. Along the way (Sam’s running from Dean) Sam picks up a young 16-year old pregnant girl. But it gets more interesting and sophisticated than you’d normally get from a fluffy bunny-sounding setup like that. Be ready for edgy, be ready for graphic, but in a good way. Not gratuitious. "Boys of Summer" and "Summer out of Reach" by Liath.
The strength of these two stories, one from Sam’s POV, the other from Dean’s, is the description. Weather comes into play a lot, creating an atmosphere where you get the feeling that the sky over their heads is the only constant in their lives. The Dad is gone a lot, but even when he’s there, the boys can’t take their eyes off each other. Dean does his best to resist Sammy, pushes him away even, but you know, no one can resist Sam. The writing is lyrical, and even though each story mirrors the other, they don’t repeat, which is difficult to do. Marvelous phrasing. (Wincest)

"For My Next Trick" by nutkin.
Just about the saddest coming of age story ever. Sam is seaching for normal, not just searching but desperately so. Every avenue, every coffee mug, every small town and he wants it. He’s so wanting it, and yet he knows what getting it will mean. Leaving Dean behind. Makes me want to cry. Hard. (Wincest)
http://nutkin.livejournal.com/18782.html
"Driving Down the Darkness" by nutkin
This story was perfect. It had no flaws. It was 40,000 words of pure goodness. I think what I liked best was the slow pacing and the atmosphere of normalcy in which the relationship built up. There was no slap dashed-ness to this. The story covers the first season by the end of which Sam and Dean are together, replete with all the “this is wrong, this is so wrong” angst that makes it so real for me and that I love so well. "Dwellers in Silence" by dwarfankylosaur.
This is the one where Sam tries to get Dean out of his deal and breaks the world. It totally creeped me out and is one of those stories I'll never forget. (Gen)

"Last Outpost of All that Is" by eighth_horizon.
I don't like end-of-the-world fics because they make me cry. But this fic captured the chracters so well, and the sex is slow and not rushed, I loved it. And then, when I was finished reading it, I cried and wanted to crawl under the blankets and think only of pretty ponies and soft kettehs. This story got to me HARD.(Wincest)

- What's that story that made you say, yeah, this writer just gets it - just sees the characters the
way I do/wrote that story I wanted to/seemingly pried that right out of my head?
"American Myth" by candle_beck.
When I first read this, I was stunned at how GOOD the characterization of Sam and Dean was. Then I realized that this writer did it how I would do it, were I as good as this writer! I know, I know, we don’t compete with others, we compete with ourselves, yadda, yadda, yadda. The story is overall brilliant and shiny, with the most believable fights, the most neverending roads, the writer has Oklahoma driving down SOLID, and the slow buildup to the inevitable you-know-what scene, takes its own sweet time. Sashaying along with a twinkle in its eye saying, I’ll get there, don’t you worry.

"Dazzleland," by Big Pink.
I love the way this writer portrays Sam trying to fit in and how it went when he brought a friend home from school. I always saw Sam's relationship with John as a love/hate one. And the voilence
that the friend witnesses, and the time Sam got caught carrhing a hunting knife to schoo. It's not his fault, and John has to come to school to fix the situation, and you just know he's blaming Sam for not being more clever about it. She sees John JUST the way I see him, with all the contrasting shades of gray. (Gen)

- What's that story(s) that first sucked you into a fandom/first story you read in a fandom?
"Birds on a Wire" by Killa.
They say you never forget your first. This writer keeps the boys masculine, makes the slash real, and has the most amazing descriptions of sex ever. Have not been able to stop thinking about this story, and pretty much compare it to everything else I’m reading now. The realism, the damp, dusty nights, the shadows on the wall, the motel. There's no easy “let’s be lovers forever,” but more along the lines of “now look what else we’ve fucked up!” (Wincest)
http://seacouver.slashcity.net/killa/birdsonawire.html
"Little, Rattle, Stilt" by hope.
What sold me on the whole idea and THIS particular story was the juxtaposition of kind attempt of the authority figures around him to keep him safe, and, at the same time, Sam's desperate desire to get BACK to the spooky, twisted, rather gritty world he's been yanked out of. He loves his dad and Dean and that's his world. It's heartbreakingly and realistically written. (Gen)
