The neck brace of doom...

So, I was rear-ended last night pretty badly. I was driving home from work later than normal because we had a meeting run long and this woman pulled out in front of me and I was able to stop in time to not hit her but the guy behind me?

Not so much...

I had to spend six hours in the hospital, three and a half of which in the uncomfortable hard neck brace so they could clear my neck and spine. I have whiplash and am home feeling mostly annoyed by the whole thing.

Only three days ago I was telling someone I was in a position to pay my car out free and clear which would be one less debt I would have to worry about.

This is the fates having a big old laugh at me.

The guy who hit me wasn't insured so while I am, he's going to have a more horrible time of it I suspect. His car was totaled. Plus, my insurance company will be wanting to recover their money from him some way.

Urgh.

You never wake up in the morning thinking your day is going to end so badly.

Car is pretty smooshed but the insurance just rang and it looks like they'll repair rather than write off.

man, I'm so sorry that happened. I swear drivers suck. I almost got in a car accident this morning due to almost the same thing that happened to me. I have no clue why people can't look before pulling out in traffic...

I hope you get better soon.

It's just so annoying that the driver who caused the accident gets off scot free... but what're you going to do... *shrugs* This is why I'm insured up the wazooo... My car is already being repaired, I have a hire car booked and no excess because I wasn't at fault.

Yeah, the guy who hit you is in a lot more trouble, but that's not much consolation.

I was hit by a car when I was on a bike, and it took a while for my neck to get better; what really helped was when the doctor gave me some exercises to do. If pain persists, don't hesitate to ask for help, and to do whatever it takes: exercises at home, a little PT, whatever. Really. I wish I'd voiced my problems sooner.

But I hope you don't have to worry about that. I'm so sorry; that's awful to go through! Shoot, I got thrown from a bike (twenty-five feet, according to one witness; not surprisingly, I don't remember), and they only kept me about half as long as they kept you in the hospital! I was wearing a helmet. Always wear a helmet when cycling.

Sometimes it seems like it might help when driving, too!

Wow... ouch! Hahahaa... yeah, maybe one of those full-on roll cages. :D

Why, yes, it was almost having your car paid for that caused the accident.

Oh, geez, honey, that's awful. I'm glad you are insured, though, it sure does make it easier to deal with. (I've been keeping a wary eye out for 'verse-driven trucks myself lately, since I finally got mine paid off.)

Take care of your neck and treat it gently until the docs say you're OK. I'm just glad you *are* OK, really.

TOTAL suckmosis! :-( I think uninsured drivers should be publicly whipped. I hope your neck recovers quicky and thoroughly.

In other news, I had to blink when I saw your name on my friend Heidi8's LJ! I've known her for virtually for, um...(counts on fingers)...13 years years. We met back in the dark ages of the 'net on a Friends mailing list. A list that's still active, I might add. I got to meet her face last May.

She was uber-squeeful about the fic you wrote, and I had to agree with her that you rock. :) It was pretty funny to see two utterly divergent corners of my life cross. :)
