So, I had another SPN story idea... because yis... I don't have enough to do...

It's the Winchesters as a hunting family, Mary having survived the initial attack. I've just got this scene in my head - it's 2am and the Impala is moving down the highway. John is driving and Mary is in the passenger seat, Sammy (about five years old) passed out in her lap and Dean sprawled across the backseat, asleep as well. I don't know where they're going or where they've been... these are the things that will come with the writing...

I know there's quite a few Mary survives stories out there... anyone want to link me to any good ones they've read. Sometimes when I've got a scene kinda rolling around my head that's so clear and sharply defined I'm mindful that I've *read* it somewhere before.

This idea intrigues me, as I've only seen stories about John and the boys hunting or Mary and the boys hunting, not all four of them hunting.

I always like when a story idea gives me lots of questions to answer... like would Sam have been less resistant to the hunting lifestyle because he would have felt more "settled" even on the road with a mother figure... would it have changed Dean's and Sam's relationship for Dean not to have been the primary caregiver... would John and Mary's relationship survive or would John's singular yen for vengeance, born of *nearly* losing his family and the fear that whatever it was wanting to come back and finish the job, drive her away and therefore put them at odds when it comes to the boys... ?

See... lots of thinky thoughts. I'm leaning more towards the whole hunt bringing them closer together only at *first* and ultimately driving a canyon between them.

I'd love to see you follow up on this. The only one I can recall where all of them survived (i.e., not Mary instead of John) is an AU by trollprincess. Maybe she wrote two, actually.

I also did a Mary-survives story as part of a Five Things for John, in which not only did she survive but she had a daughter after Sam and they all grew up hunting.
