Save me from this boooooredom...
People next door having loud party so I can't sleep *stabbity*
I can't bring myself to write after finishing the remix story and I've skipped back +160 on the flist so I'm taking a leaf from
keepaofthecheez's book and presenting my top 10 pairings. But wait! I hear you cry. You keep lumping us with all these *gen* stories. Who are you and why are you proclaiming to be a shipper?? Believe me (although you may not believe me after reading more than say... 2 of my fics), I'm a big ol' sap. I just can't seem to... write that way. Heh.
So, below the cut are my pairings for the ages. Be wary, clips below and comments on the pairings so there may be spoilers but I tried to mostly find non-spoilery clips. (Nothing spoilery from currently airing shows).
10. Felicity and Ben -
You're running away from me now... aren't you?? I got completely and surprisingly sucker punched by this show and it didn't help that I saw the last episode of season one and the brain meltingly hot face-grab-kiss as my first episode and was completely addicted (and never liked Noel because of it...)
9. Buffy and Angel -
They were DOOMED but they loved each other but still ultimately DOOMED. Didn't stop me from being completely in love with them together and a small part of me still is. A teeny tiny spark that still sekritly squees into her fists if ever in the mood for something sappy and DOOMED.
8. Wesley and Fred/Illyria -
Noticing a theme? DOOOOOOOMED. But interesting. So completely interesting. I despised Wesley when he first came to Buffy but he slowly and surely won me over. Might have had something to do with him going all darkside for a while there... The unrequited thing never really grabbed me but Wesley grieving and keeping Illyria around as a kind of reminder was just... powerful. Don't clicky if you haven't seen the last episode of Angel and want to.
7. Willow and Tara -
I just... can't describe how much I love them, even though I was conflicted for a long time because of a pairing higher up in the list. They deserved to be happy and I know that wasn't going to happen in a Joss world but I couldn't help it. I WANTED THEM TO BE HAPPY!!!
6. Rory and Dean -
I could not withstand the cute. Gilmore Girls and Felicity are basically my saccharine sweet fix in amongst my angst. I loved these two together and what? Who is this Jess guy? Wait, what are you doing to Cute!Dean?? Oh my god NOOOOOOO!! Even youtube was against me on this one. I plugged in a Dean and Rory search and it kept coming up with Rory/Jess. *glares*
5. Oz and Willow -
See my conflict? See? But who could resist this??
Willow: Hi.
Oz: Oh, that's what I was going to say.
I just... yeah.
4. John and Rodney -
I'm going pairing without actually making it necessarily "romantic" pairing in the traditional sense. I have another one of these in the list and there is nothing you can do about it. Mwahaha. Basically, I love their interaction, I love seeing them on screen together and it just... works. They bicker, they care and you just want to squeeze them both and knock their heads together at the same time.
3. Sam and Dean -
See what I did there? Again, not strictly "romantic" but these two are definitely in a loving relationship and genuinely care about each other and we have to talk about them hugging more but that's just one small complaint. Maybe they could have sessions with the Petrellis.
Peter: See, I'm touching my brother's face and it's okay and he's not squirming.
Sam and Dean: *Blink blankly at each other*
2. John and Aeryn -
I hunted for ages just to find this one particular scene because it killed me completely dead. I love them together and even though I have a not-so-secret yen for Daniel/Vala, this is just... romance.
1. Wash and Zoe -
There's no will they/won't they. There's no triangle. There's just two married people completely in love with each other and... it works. It's compelling and watchable and I want MORE of it. But it's Joss so yeah, you know it's ultimately DOOOOOOOOOOMED!!

I think Oz/Willow is my favourite of those. I can totally understand why he left the show - he really didn't get much to do - but they were so adorable together. But then I loved Willow/Tara, too... Poor Willow, she really hasn't got the luck.
Oz (to Willow): "There's something about you that's causing me to hug you. It's like I have no will of my own." *squee!*
no subject
Yep, I think I actually said the word *squee* in that scene... hehehee!

You made me go and hunt up Willow/Oz quotes.
OZ: "I'm gonna ask you to go out with me tomorrow night, and I'm kinda nervous about it actually. It's interesting."
WILLOW: "Oh. Well, if it helps at all, I'm gonna say 'yes'."
OZ: "Yeah, it helps. It-it creates a comfort zone. Do you wanna go out with me tomorrow night?"
WILLOW: "Oh! I can't!"
OZ: "Well, see, I like that you're unpredictable."
Eeee!

BtVS - Willow and Oz. MMMMMmmm made me a total fangirl of Seth Green (besides my best friend had a huge crush on him at the time too)

And...and...Wash and Zoe! Best tv married couple EVER!
(what is with Joss Whedon and good (tragic) romances?)

Am I the only one surprised that Sam/Jack didn't even make the top ten? Hmmm? :P Oh, and can we still be friends if I confess I was a Rory/Jess kinda girl? *is properly contrite*
Thanks for all the clips. I enjoyed much nostalgia. :)

And ha! I was waiting for someone to mention the Sam/Jack... hee... *hides*

Tara, also, I often found kind of boring. Of course, I've never seen much of season six, in which I understand her role was much more interesting and less of a doormat.
The person I'd really love to see Buffy with is Giles. Seriously. Not while she's a minor, of course. But, really, he's perfect for her. I've never seen him acting parentally to any of the Scoobies, and certainly not to Buffy; for one thing, he's not an authority figure, and doesn't ever try to be one past episode three of season one. The only person who ever compares Giles to a father of any of the Scoobies is Travers, on the basis of about five minutes of personal observation. As to the age thing, Giles would bring the average age of her boyfriends down. Angel and Spike are both at least a century older than he is; the only difference is that he's alive (which should be a plus!) and he looks older: anyone who accepts B/A or B/S but not B/G because "he's too old for her" is basing way too much on physical appearance. Gileswench has a great essay on why the two of them make a great couple that says it better than I could.
I also love Giles/Jenny. Damn you, Joss!
I so agree with you on Willow/Oz. In my head, they meet up a couple years after the series is over and discover (a) that Willow is bi, not gay (which would certainly fit her character's canonical actions/words through the whole series better than strict lesbianism) (b) Oz has gained enough control over his wolfiness that he can be with her now and (c) they both still love each other. (In my head, Willow and Kennedy split up not long after the pressures of an apocalypse weren't pressing them together anymore.)
And who can argue with John/Aeryn? Really, they are about the best couple I've ever seen on screen.
Alas, I don't know enough about the rest of your couples to comment. Well, except John&Rodney; I agree that they're great together and love watching them. My problem with much of slashdom (and fanfic in general!) is the presumption that the only kind of chemistry is sexual chemistry, and that all close characters are either having sex with each other or want to be having sex with each other. Which greatly flattens out the range of human emotions and relationships, imho.

Meeee toooooo! Definitely an honorable mention there...

Oh, you know I now have to write this... they need a happy ending. And yeah, Kennedy, meh! Meh I say!

Hehehee... why do you think I write so much gen? I've seen great stories kinda ruined because there is a tacked on "and then they done sex" bit... *hands* I do write pairing centric fic but I like writing the relationship and will only write the sex if it feels necessary which more times than not... it doesn't really.

And, the whole "good gen fic" is one of the reasons I really like your stuff.

Oz, oh how I adored Oz. I like Willow and Tara, too, and now that I think about it I like Tara more than Willow and Oz more than Willow. Hmmm...
I think this weekend I'll have to pull out the BtVS dvs and rewatch. And I need to start on Farscape, too. Too much tv and not enough time to enjoy it all.
I icon with Sam/Jack because it's my current OTP and I have nothing else. Besides, as Lyssie says, "it's hot." *g*

Awww...that scene always gets me :( from sad for Wesley to cheering Illyria *sigh* NFA is just one great episode back to back.
Buffy/Angel, Willow/Tara, Willow/Oz, Xander/Anya, Giles/Jenny, Zoe/Wash... Joss is the master of ships...

And you're right, non romantic pairings can still do it for me. I love sam and dean and them being brothers? That's totally enough for me. I read wincest but so far as the *actual* show goes? What they're giving me is more than enough.
Thanks for all the great clips:)

I am stunned by the clips. I never watched Felicity or Gilmore Girls, but the clips illustrated your point so well. Bravo on the clips. They were amazing!! And again, I cried during a Farscape clip. That show...{shakes head}...killed me. When it ended....{chokes}...it ruined me.
Thanks so much for creating and for sharing! I very much enjoyed!

Also, yay for the other duos! Because Oz and Willow are adorkable high school love and Willow and Tara are sweet gotta-be-with-you love John and Rodney who are fondly exasperated with each other love, and Zoe and Wash who are snarky affectionate married couple love, and Sam and Dean who fantastic brotherly love!
I even liked Angel and Buffy who I actually like better when they're apart and snarking at each other but still, they did have some cute moments together.

DOOOOOOOM! THE ANGST!
I weep every time I watch season 2 of Buffy, but my heart really lies in Spike/Angel and Spike/Buffy/Angel romantic entanglement, because GOD--could they be any more fucked up and complicated?
Mmmm, pairings.
