End of year writing meme thingum
I would do the stats but that involves more effort than I can actually muster.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?
I wrote far more, probably more in the last six months than the first. I'd kind of stagnated, lost the joy of it a little and all but stopped. I guess I kind of let stuff go, found the fun again, accepted that I wasn't doing this for anyone but me. I've had a pretty bad year and to have something purely escapist like this is important, but it's also important to remember that it's just that, the little no-stress corner of my existence.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Avengers of course. Like a bolt of lightening out of the blue and suddenly words are pouring out. I started off with Steve/Tony but I'm currently writing Clint/Darcy too because OMG, how adorable?
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest?
Probably If At First which is the Steve/Tony Avengers college!AU that started life as comment fic in
foxxcub's journal. It was my first Avengers fic and gave me confidence that I could write something longer than 3k without it feeling like pulling teeth.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Probably signing up to multiple Big Bangs. I'm really good at knocking out the short-form story but anything longer becomes a struggle. I finished two Big Bangs this year so am pretty chuffed with that.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?
Probably to get my stuff out there. Might reinvest in the guide book for writing competitions and just go to town.
From my past year of writing, what was...
My best story of this year:
Probably as though nothing could fall which is my SPN Big Bang. I finished it despite something terrible happening in RL and it was something to take my mind off what was happening, something to concentrate on so it was my best story because it was the one I'm most grateful to, plus
ignited's artwork was absolutely stunning.
My most popular story of this year:
I'd say it was a toss up between as though nothing could fall and the Avengers fic i stole the keys to this guy - the response to that one was a little surprising since I'm such a new Avengers writer.
Most fun story to write:
I'd have to say If At First again, because it was the first story in a long time that didn't feel like work.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Can I pick someone else's story?? I'm basically bad at the blushy stuff... I rarely write hard core and I'm not sure why... maybe my upbringing makes me secretly embarrassed even though in day to day life I'm really not worried about it at all.
I think from It Takes A Village between Erik and Charles because it's forbidden and I always kind of like that stuff.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Nothing really wrong in that sense, other than writing for a movie that hasn't come out yet, so will be royally jossed at every turn maybe? :)
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
Again, I would always have to cite other people's work rather than my own here. I have a very set impression of characters when I start something, a very definite character voice. I do get impressions shifted when I read something of someone else's and it just reads right to me.
Hardest story to write:
Again as though nothing could fall because it was a bad time RL speaking.
Biggest Disappointment:
I'm always most disappointed with stuff I don't finish so I'd have to say my Inception Big Bang. I really liked the idea, will still write if eventually but just had to bow out.
Biggest Surprise:
Any and all Avengers fic, definitely.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
Nothing comes to mind. Probably the Avengers fic because it doesn't feel labored so everything else now does by comparison so it really shows I was struggling there for a while.

I think from It Takes A Village between Erik and Charles because it's forbidden and I always kind of like that stuff.
Charles groans, a helpless sound that breaks any kind of willpower Erik has or was capable of having. His brain is working just enough to know that anyone could see them where they are, that either Janos or Remy would love the excuse to bring the might of the Elders down on their heads, bring their Migration forward or just have them disappear. They’re breaking one of the most fundamental Laws and Erik can’t find it in himself to care.
Erik grabs double-handfuls of Charles’ robe, unmindful of the way it pulls apart in his hands and drags Charles off the porch and around to the back of his house. There’s deep shadow behind, Charles’ house unlit by the lanterns that dot the village because the space between his house and the next one is narrow, no one walks behind it.
