FBR - "Girl's Poker Night"

So, because Lorne/Novak proved surprisingly popular, I'm going to go out on a limb and calling this a second installment of "A Relationship From Scratch" series.

Title: Girl's Poker Night
Author: [livejournal.com profile] kellifer_fic
Pairing Lorne/Novak (implied)
Rating G
Summary: “Oh please,” Olsem huffed. “We’re for all intents and purposes living in a small town. Everyone knows everything.”

This fic is for [livejournal.com profile] annerbhp

“You’re terrible at bluffing, I don’t know why you even bother.”

Katie Brown rolled her eyes as Cadman leaned over the table, scraping all her winnings towards herself. “It’s not bluffing when you have three Kings. Three Kings is a good hand.”

“Not when the other person has a flush,” Cadman smirked, earning an even bigger eye-roll from Katie and a snort from Olsem, one of the other female marines.

“Have you always been like this or did the stint with an inner-Rodney affect your arrogance?” Katie grumbled and Laura stilled.

“No one is supposed to know about that so keep your voice down,” Laura hissed.

“Oh please,” Olsem huffed. “We’re for all intents and purposes living in a small town. Everyone knows everything.”

“Oh right. So why is it the everything is always about me, hmm?”

“Arrogance. See?” Katie quipped, clearly enjoying herself now. Cadman wondered how anyone could ever think the small botanist was sweet. Obviously they’d never seen her at a girl’s poker night. “And don’t think I haven’t forgotten that it was probably you that kissed me rather than Rodney when we had dinner.”

“Oh no, can we please not fight about this every time we get together?” Olsem sighed, gathering the scattered cards and starting to sort them into some semblance of order.

“She brought a date for herself, to my date!” Katie shrilled.

“Oh you know that isn’t what happened!” Cadman grumped, stacking her chips. “I brought Carson so Rodney would relax for two seconds. He was a…wing man.”

“How about we change the subject, huh?” Olsem tried valiantly to derail the argument before both women let loose with the dips at each other. She could certainly see it heading that way.

Wing man my ass!” Katie stood from the table, thumping her hands down on it and scattering chips and cards everywhere.

“Guys-“

“Oh my god Katie, let it go,” Cadman rejoindered.

“Who asked you to interfere!”

“Guys-“ Olsem tried again.

“We were doing just-“

“Did you hear Major Lorne carried Lindsey all the way to the infirmary the other day and stayed with her the entire time?” Olsem blurted in a rush.

Katie and Cadman lowered to their chairs, mouths open, staring at Novak, who had turned an outstandingly bright shade of pink and had sunk enough in her chair that only her eyes were showing over the top of the table.

Really?” They said in unison.

Wheee!

Girls playing poker and being snarky. And Novak turning red with embarrassment. And omg, I hope we get ANYTHING with both Lorne and Novak in the same scene this season. :)

*giggle* that was so cute. How true, that they are living in a small town where the local past time is to chatter about everyone else. :) They are going to give Novak crap for a long time to come about that!

Great story.

I love this with the secondary female characters talking trash over cards and then having a gossip-fest! LOL!

I hope you do more of these Girl's Nights. :D A series would be great!

Oh nonono, you can't stop there! *pouts*

I'm so glad I've found your LJ, you know? love you so very much ATM and hey, you also write my OTP. Love you even more. *g* Now I'm going to re-read the series in the correct order since I clearly didn't the first time around (*headdesk*) and then I'll start on your John/Rodney ones, which -if they're anything like the N/L ones- will be awesome. *rubs hands*
