I've never done a ficlet before (not even sure if this qualifies as one) but here's my attempt anyway. I don't think I've read the story from which the line I chose has been taken but I've written it as a Supernatural ficlet, seeing as SN is all I read/write/breathe lately....

She calls him Soldier Boy and he says to stop it and she says she likes the sibilance of the SB sound and it’s either that or son of a bitch.

In the end he relents, not that she'd give a shit whether he did or didn't. But he decides that he prefers Soldier Boy to being called The Boy King at any rate. He doesn't admit as much to Ruby of course. Doesn't want to share the way being referred to as a King makes him feel all at once unworthy (defective, fucked up, cursed) and yet, goaded by the prospect of immeasurable power (evil, demonic power). Power, that should he tap into, he's pretty confident, would flood through his body and swallow him up. Destroying him and those around him, well...those it would take out too.

The potential for such great power won't leave him alone, won't go away however badly he wants it too. It's like a constant migraine pounding behind his eyes. But he carries on ignoring it, until it eventually becomes a distant hum at the back of his mind. He carries on grinning at Dean's jokes, eating greasy meals in late-night diners, watching infomercials just to make fun of the sap trying to sell such crappy junk ("Dean, we don't need a fucking Thigh Master.") and showering in crummy bathrooms which are stained with blood from the previous night's hunt and smell strongly of Dean's aftershave and cheap motel soap.

When Dean is gone the title Ruby gave him rings in his ears again and the distant hum of power grows into an all out scream. It blocks out everything until he can't hear Bobby shouting at him to "stop, Sam goddamn it." Can't hear the roar of the Impala's engine, can't hear Dean's cassette tapes which he feeds into the car stereo one after another …he just hears "Soldier Boy"…and he can't outrun it and can't ignore it anymore, there's simply no diversion or determination strong enough without Dean.

So Sam stops running. He sets the power free and goes to war.
