I have no idea if I would be able to get into it now - just as I love Anne McCafferey's books and have no idea whether I'd like them half as much coming to them as a more mature reader.

But what the original series had was this optimism! They went forth (Boldly!) and had a grand time poking their noses in places and fighting the good fight. I mean, sure there wasn't a supercomputer made that Kirk didn't feel a need to break, but it was all in good fun. I like a little cheese, and (to mix metaphors) it has some really good crack.
